J.C. -2003
J.C. was born in Paisley, just west of Glasgow, Scotland. J.C grew up on the poor side of town. He learned to sing before he could talk. He never learned to play an instrument because his family couldnt afford one. J.C. joined his school choir and was an immediate standout. While in high(land) school, he joined the Paisley McSnuff Pipe and Drum Band. However, he had trouble being heard singing above all those bagpipes so he struck out on his own to be a soloist. He worked his way to London, England singing ballads and show tunes. There in London in 1968 at the Hootananny Club in Brixton, he was spotted by talent agent Chas Blooman. J.C. signed with Blooman and went to perform in New York City. He worked his way through the club circuit until he hit the big time, playing the Copacabana in the mid-seventies. While on the club circuit, he would hook up with keyboardist Owen Cash. The two hit it off immediately and were the talk of the nightclub crowd. By chance, Max Power, August Thunderstorm and Rich King just happened to catch the show at the Copa one night. Max said, "That guy sounds more like Gene Pitney than Gene Pitney!" Phone numbers were exchanged at the time and the boys kept in contact and followed each others careers over the years. When Max, August and Jack got The Viceroys together, they thought who better to front the band other than J.C. Max got on the phone to J.C. and told him to bring Owen Cash with him. They jumped at the opportunity. The Viceroys have been going strong ever since. J.C is a part-time architect and has designed buildings in the Sahara and Kalahari deserts for the Sultan of Dubai. J.C. doesnt really have a permanent residence; he just tends to settle down where ever The Viceroys are playing next. J.C.s philosophy is: "I sing, therefore Im a Viceroy."
