August - 1980

August Thunderstorm was born in London, England in the Southend on Fambridge Close Road behind The Railway Tavern. The tavern always had local bands playing in the evenings and August would drop in to hear them. A couple of his early influences were John Steel of The Animals and Mick Avory of The Kinks who would occasionally play at The Railway Tavern. He couldn’t resist pounding away on those drums. August got restless knocking around London playing in nondescript cover bands and left for New York City in 1975. It was a few months later he would hook up with Max Power and Rich King to form the Dialtones, playing a many of New York’s clubs in the Soho district. The punk scene faded in the early eighties and August moved on to play in the bands Silver City, Crystal Drive and a couple that never bothered to come up with a name. One of his main influences at that time was Liberty DeVitto of the Billy Joel band, which you can still hear in his drumming style today. August got back together with Max Power and Jack Hammer to join The Viceroys in 1993. In his spare time, he likes to sit at bus stops and shout at passing motorists. August moved to the Detroit area and currently resides in the Uniroyal tire on I-94. August’s philosophy is: "If it’s too loud, you’re too old."
